A Wild Time!

Around 30 of us went  to see the swindon wildcats play the Telford Tigers on saturday the 17th. We started the evening with a quick bite to eat in the nearby McDonalds and then went over to the Link Centre to watch the action unfold!

The game took place over 3 periods of 20 minutes with a break between each period ( this was great for the kids as they were able to have a quick wander about as we all know sitting in a seat for a while can be a challenge). Ice hockey is a fast and furious game in which we all watched but i dont think any of us fully understood the rules!

The game ended 8 - 1 in favour of the Wildcats so the home crowd were all pleased.

Good fun was has by all and hopefully we can repeat this outing again sometime soon.

Play Partner Scheme
Q.   What are Play Partner Parties?

A.   Play Partner Parties are parties that are hosted by young people from mainstream secondary schools for children with disabilities.

Q.   What is the point of a Play Partner Party?

A.    The point is to enable children and young people with disabilities, who may be isolated outside of school hours, to meet, play and have fun with able, mainstream children who live in the community.

Who might be a Play Partner?

A.    A Play Partner is a sensible, reliable caring young person aged 13-16 years from a mainstream school, who is offering time to befriend a child (or teenager) with disabilities. Play Partners are given a small reward for offering their time at the parties, in recognition of their efforts.

Q.   What are the benefits of joining the Play Partner scheme?
A.    Children and their parents will be invited to attend 4 parties where disabled children will be introduced to mainstream young people and their families. The children will be entertained with activities and a tea party.  If families get on well then they can, of course, continue with a relationship privately, outside of the parties.

Forms need to be supported by a teacher or other professional in line with the local authority's responsibility to safeguarding.

If you have any queries about this scheme or would like to talk to someone about this in more detail, call Naomi Defriend at Wiltshire Council on tel:07785 578147
